President Askar Akaev.
The President of the Kyrgyz Republic. President Askar Akaev was born on November 10, 1944 in the village of Kyzyl-Bairak, Kemin district of Kyrgyzstan in the family of a farmer. In 1961 he finished secondary school with a Gold Medal. He graduated with honors from the Leningrad Fine Mechanics and Optics Institute in 1967 and pursued his studies to become a Doctor of Science. Dr. Akaev started his career in 1961 as a mechanic worker, a senior laboratory researcher, engineer, senior lecturer and Professor, then Chairman in Frunze Polytechnical Institute, now Bishkek Technical University. In 1984 Askar Akaev was elected a correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, at the same year he become an academician. In 1986 he was appointed a Head of the Department of Science and Higher Academic Institutions, Kyrgyz Communist Party Central Committee. From 1987 to 1989 - Vice President, Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences and in 1989-1990 - President, Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences. On October 27, 1990 Parliament of Kyrgyzstan elected Askar Akaev as the President of the Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic. At the nation-wide elections on October 12, 1991 he was elected as the First President of independent Kyrgyzstan. The people of Kyrgyzstan confirmed Akaev's powers as the President of state at the national referendum on January 30, 1994. On December 24, 1995 the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Askar Akaev was re-elected for the next term. Askar Akaev is the author of over 80 scientific works and articles. Some of them are used now as a manual for institutions of higher learning. He was awarded the Prize of Lenin Komsomol of Kyrgyzstan for his mathematical study of problems of heating of computers. At the end of 1992 Askar Akaev was "The man of the Year in Kyrgyzstan" - for his activities in promoting national fraternity and stability in the republic and successful external policy. He has received many International Awards, among them Grand Cross of the Order of Liberty and Unity from the Association for Unity Latin America, for his contribution to development of science, promotion of democracy and strengthening of fraternal ties between peoples and the promotion of human rights (1995); Prize of Javaharlal Neru's International Foundation for Unity (1995); Prize of Crans Montana World Forum (1996); North American-Kyrgyz Business Councils International Leadership Award (1997). Askar Akaev is a Full Member of the New York Academy of Sciences (1992), Honorary Member of the International Academy of Sciences, Education, Industry and Art, California, USA (1996) and Islamic Academy of Sciences. He is an honorary professor of the Moscow State University. Askar Akaev is married, has four children
